Sleep Stories

This post will not be very exciting for any of you, but is more for myself to remember Kaden's latest triumphs in the sleep department. I never thought I could be so happy about something so seemingly trivial,  like sleep, but when it comes to your own child and his accomplishments and growth, that is very exciting. Four nights ago I decided that I would start trying to put Kaden to sleep in his crib at night rather than sleeping with me. Co-sleeping was good while it lasted as it helped me to get the sleep I needed so that I could actually enjoy my days with him and be slightly productive. But I really like to sprawl, and so having him in our bed was not ideal. Anyhoo, the first night was successful - I think he slept for 3 3 hour chunks with a couple feeds in between. It was strange to get up during the night again, but not nearly as exhausting because he eats MUCH faster now. 10-15 mins and he's be snoozing again, without so much as a twitch when I put him back to bed. The second night was almost the same, but only 2 hours for the third chunk of sleep. Following? Now the THIRD night - a BREAKTHROUGH! Boy was I stoked when he finally woke up 5 and 1/2 hours after going to sleep :) Of course I didn't sleep straight through that because my body is so used to waking up frequently...but alas, its progress! Finally, last night he slept 4 and 1/2 hours and then another 3 before I took him to my bed for an extra hour of sleep before we needed to get up for church. My little boy is growing up!! I should probably add that prior to these last four days Kaden would wake up every 2 or 3 hours during the night like clockwork. Hence the reason he had been sleeping with me for the last month or so. Before I know it, he's going to be sleeping in a big boy bed! haha oh gosh, let's not think too far ahead :)

Baby Dedication

This past Sunday was Kaden's baby dedication at church. We have just recently become members at Kelowna Gospel Fellowship (KGF) and love that we have finally found a place to call home. I was so excited prior to Sunday because I knew we would be dedicating Kaden at the church where he would be growing up and making friends. Five babies were dedicated along with Kaden, which is an indication of how many children there are at KGF - and there are a LOT! Here is the link to the video of Sunday:kgfchurch.com/video, and here are a few pictures from the morning:

SIX babies were dedicated that Sunday - our church is growing and it's so exciting!!!

Photoshoot

When Kaden was 12 days old we took him to get newborn photos taken. Our photographer was Candice Johnson, my old roommate's sister-in-law, who also took our engagement and wedding photos. We were actually the first wedding she shot, and now her business seems to be thriving! I am happy that she was able to capture 3 of our biggest events as a couple. You can check out more of her work at candicejohnsonphotography.com. Here are a few of my favorite photos from Kaden's shoot:

Candice had the most beautiful tree in her house!

Probably my favorite :)

This outfit was adorable. I guess Candice met a lady online that makes all kinds of adorable baby clothes, so every time she uses one in a shoot the lady will send her a new one.

I have yet to post the other photos on facebook, but if you don't already have Jason as a friend then add him because he has posted them on his page. I am looking forward to having more photos done as Kaden grows up - I'd really like to do a "Smash-the-cake" shoot on his 1st birthday. Check out this link for some cake smash pictures done by another awesome photographer from Smithers. facebook.com/album.php?aid=145023&id=202967306588 So fun!

Catching up!

So here I go! I've recently been inspired to start a blog now that I am a mommy - I only hope I can keep up with it! I thought I'd just start by catching everyone up on our happenings the last couple of months...
55 days ago I gave birth to a healthy, beautiful baby boy! My life is forever changed-for the better and he brings me so much indescribable joy. Even on a day like today when I feel as if I've been hit by a semi, I can smile because he is in my life. God has blessed us! Kaden Joel Legg was born November 16, 2010 at 8:25pm and weighed 7.0 lbs and 19 3/4'' long. I was actually surprised he wasn't smaller considering the many comments throughout my pregnancy about my tiny belly. I thought it was plenty big enough, thank you very much :). My mom arrived at the hospital just 3 hours after he was born and stayed with us for 3 weeks. It was amazing to have her there while I adjusted to mommyhood and to experience the first 3 weeks of Kaden's life. She really bonded to him in that time and can't wait to come back in February. And April. I think she will soon get tired of the many trips and just decide to stay - we can only hope!  Here are a few of Kaden's first pictures in the hospital.

The next big event we had was moving into our very own condo. We love it here and can really see ourselves staying for a good long time, which is the point, I suppose. It is a bit smaller than our last place so we have had to downsize a little bit, but we don't mind because we had a lot of things we didn't need. I am excited for the memories we will make here with our munchkin and to watch him grow. I think baby's 2nd Christmas may have a few more memories than his first though, as he slept through present opening and 2 dinners this year. Now maybe I should take down that tree...
